We really liked the book "Harry the Dirty Dog" in our house, so we bought this and "Harry and the Lady Next Door" for my son's birthday. The part that irks me as a parent is when Harry is "walking in the shadow the fat lady made." I don't like reading statements so judgemental to my 2 and 4 year olds. Too bad, because the rest of the book is actually ok.

All of the Harry books are great reading, but this is my personal favorite. Harry gets lost at the beach when he wanders too far away and can't find his family back because the entire beach is dotted with protective umbrellas like the one his family has! This chronicles his fun, and scary time finding his family back. Cleverly illustrated solely in green and yellow/orange the Harry books are standouts in kids reading. My kids love all of Harry's adventures, this is the funnest, because of the setting. Thank goodness someone had the sense to republish these books and market them for today's audience! No scouring old bookstores for dogeared copies, they are sold right on Amazon in crystal-clear copy!

I read Harry the Dirty Dog to my class and my students were in love. They searched out other Harry books in the school library and I thought I should add to my classroom collection. I had never read this one before, but bought it just because. Great story as part of my Harry collection. I makes me smile that kids today love reading the Harry stories just as I remember loving them when I was a kid.

I grew up with Harry and was very excited to find these books for our youngest. Over the years we've lost my original books and had a surprise baby! Harry is interesting and fun and she loves him at 3.5 years old! Also check out "No Roses for Harry" and "Harry the Dirty Dog."

This is the extension of the beloved classic. :-)The good: - Simple and easy to understand for kids (2-6ish). - Adorable illustrations. - The big version is easy for kids to hold and the pages are easy to turn.The bad: - Wish the paper was sturdier, not cardboard pages necessarily, but a sturdier paper stock would be better for younger kids.LOVED this book. Great for kids and my niece loves this book.

Loved this story as a child. Now passed it along to my grand daughter who also loves the story.

Wonderful book. We love all the Harry the Dog stories and am so happy to have this in our collection. It's a paperback version, so little ones could fold, spindle, or mutilate, but it's a great read with fun illustrations. The kids, and the grandkids love it.

To start - I would strongly recommend anyone considering reading this to start with Round Ireland With a Fridge. In a lot of ways, this is its sequel - in which Tony Hawks sets out to prove the validity of the philosophy set forth in its predecessor.But, while this book has a lot of the same carefree wit and dry sarcasm that made Round Ireland with a Fridge fun, it is definitely a less light-hearted affair. Hawks' personal philosophy of optimism is truly put through the ringer, and the portrayals of poverty and a battered society are heartbreaking.But, being Hawks, he always manages to find a spark of hope and optimism, and it makes for a great read.

I love Tony Hawks and I loved this book. This is his second book that I have read, I bought a third and I am sure that I will end up buying and reading all of his books. He is funny and I laughed out loud several times and made my husband listen to snippets while I was reading this. I love his sense of humor and the way he views the world.

Good yarn well told. I just got back from Moldova. The people are warmer than the book suggests, but a lot of what the book says holds true. I laughed as I checked during the day that the manhole covers are in place, so my night time walks were uneventful. If you read this review before you read the book, you don't know what I'm talking about, but if you've read the book you know just what I'm talking about!

Tony Hawks is an odd person and a very funny writer. This book is kind of like if Dave Barry authored a Fodor's Guide on Moldova. I loved his earlier 'Round Ireland With a Fridge,' and consequently bought this volume. I prefer the Ireland book, as it is a little less dark, and a little more travelogue, but I am quite fond of this one as well.The plot basically concerns a bet about his being able to defeat the entire Moldovan National soccer team at tennis. His quests take him to Moldova, naturally enough, Northern Ireland, and Israel to play all the team members. Travel to Moldova is very difficult, and will definitely be off your list of potential vacation destinations after reading this book.I found the book funny and warm, and especially enjoyed the relationships formed with the family members he stayed with in Moldova. The last thirty or so pages are absolutely exquisite, and I won't ruin the surprise ending, other than to say it is wonderful, and I didn't see it coming. I anxiously await a new book from Tony at the earliest possible moment!

A great read that will leave you laughing and confused. Somehow, this book, as ridiculous as the premise is, manages to capture a glimpse of life in Moldova as it was shortly after the country gained independence. Much has changed in Moldova since this book was written and anyone visiting the country today may not recognize it as the same country as described in the book. Nevertheless, if you are looking for a light-hearted and interesting read then look no further. Whether you know a lot about Moldova or you've never heard of it, this book will leave you smiling.

Hilarious! Having been to Moldova over five times this made the reading experience even funnier. The book had it's funny and also sad moments which made it worth my time to read! 100% recommended. As well as Hawk's other books!Book includes several black and white photos of the football players and people Hawk's met on the way.

As someone who takes a great interest in the former Soviet Republics, I'm always interested in personal travelogues throughout the area. This book didn't disappoint. His perspective is great for a country so rarely visited. And he shows respect and deference to Moldavians and the progress they've been working towards. The pictures are great as are the descriptions of each soccer player.

Refreshing and interesting. It was a fun, touching way to experience another culture while reminding to appreciate the blessings of western society.

At a time when it has become clear that dental disease, especially periodontal disease, is a contributory cause to many inflammatory based systemic diseases like diabetes, stroke, heart disease and renal disease, it is important to read this book. Indeed, it has been estimated that providing dental care within Medicare can generate a net savings of $12 billion per year from reduced hospitalizations due to the impact of reducing a key source of inflammation in the body.

I saw the audiobook version of this book as a daily deal selection. The topic was interesting and the reviews were very positive. I am familiar with a large portion of this book, having already been aware of how medical insurance and care far exceed dental care and insurance. Nearly everyone I know has had a toothache at one point or another. Most people do not have dental insurance or kid themselves that they won't need it. You will need to go, it's just a matter of time.Still portions of this book were real eye openers. The ADA's fight against dental hygenists, the marketing guru teaching dentists how to push services that may not be needed are just a few. I was aware of the lack of dentists not participating in Medicaid because of the low reimbursement rates, how the poor go untreated and the push for coverage and care for children. The deaths of several mentioned in this book were preventable. The sad case of Deamonte Driver was used as a rallying cry for more coverage for children. A good third of this book covered children's care and the lack thereof, though improvements have been made.Despite this, coverage for adults is virtually non existent. I would've liked to have read more about the challenges of coverage for adults. The cost of dental care is often worse than medical in some cases, even with insurance you still have to pay a growing share of fees.A biting commentary, this book is an excellent read. I read this using Immersion Reading, while listening to the audiobook. The narrator was superb, a beautiful voice with the perfect amount of emotion.

There are always two sides to a story and this book gives a look into how generational poverty effects the oral health of its communities. It also sheds light on how professional “self-interest” and government red tape have sabotaged, neglected, judged & forgotten about these communities in the past.

This is a terrific read- an interesting and engaging narrative describing how oral health influences not just our health, but its' bidirectional relationship with the social and economic aspects of our lives. Otto provides insights into the struggle within the dental profession itself as dentists can't decide if their a business or a health care provider. They clearly want to be both but haven't figured out how.

This is an important book on an important topic easily read by the lay person and professional alike. It is extensively researched and provides little known history as well as both fascinating and disturbing stories. There is a clear political agenda. That being dental care is part of medical care and thus should be provided to all as an entitlement by our government. However you may feel about that agenda, it is a good first step in starting an urgently needed dialogue critical to the health of Americans. I can suggest three additional chapters to cover issues that were either avoided or neglected:1.) "Access to care" is a euphemism which really means, "who covers the cost". So who does? Can anyone cover the cost of neglect or ignorance?2.) "Organized dentistry" is consistently and repeatedly characterized as being self-serving if not profiteering. (Just wait until corporations and venture capitalists take over the practice of dentistry!) Yet the two things dentists CANNOT ORGANIZE around are fees and 3rd party ("insurance") participation. The FTC uses impressive intimidation tactics to squash all such discussion within the profession. The profession which must lead to solve the problem.3.) There is no realistic discussion about what "dental insurance" really is. Is it really insurance? Does the industry behave monopolistically by fixing fees? Is it more like a cartel? It may have been illuminating to have legal analysis of participation contracts, intimidation tactics and government collusion. All of this adds huge unnecessary cost to the delivery of care. I urge you to read this book, brush and floss diligently and require your children to do the same! 95% of dental diseases and disorders are preventable with simple, inexpensive, responsible behavior. Take care of yourself. Be a good patient. Dental disease could go away.

Mary Otto not only documents the state of dental care in the US today, she gives you a front seat into the impact this has on the personal lives of those who are unable to get access to care. Mary does a great job at shining a light on how divided dental care is from medicine. Many will be surprised to learn that there is no dental benefit in Medicare. I'm a dental professional and parts of this book were tough to read. We need to do better.

First I must say that I love my Kindle HD8. This is my second device. As with everything, technology changes. Though a User Manual comes built-in, I am a person who wants more information. It, I believe, has answered a problem for me with regard to "side loading", and discussion of the "apk file" which I've seen online discussions about but only for other models. Also found corroboration for another Original Kindle problem involving charging problems. I like this book, and am really glad I found it. Better yet, it was free.

This is one of the worst instruction books I have worked with. My wife received the unit as a gift and we wanted to know how to use it. I have worked with computers for years and have been able to get along, even though I am still challenged in many ways. I have had a number of instruction books over the years. This is one of the least helpful I have received. It seems to be a waste of money. There is little explanation concerning the things a person wants to find. I cannot believe that you would sell it as a sufficient instruction book.
