It took me a long time to get up the courage to tackle the art of macaron making. The methods here and flavor profiles are the real deal and yes, they are expensive to make. But the results make the complicated process and the price worth it. If your goal is trying to create some of the best macarons you'll ever eat, share, or sell, this book will get you there.As other reviewers have noted, the description of making the Italian meringue is vague in the recipes, but the introductory section of the book explains in painstaking step-by-step photos how to make each element and what it should look like. Adjustments may need to be made depending on your ingredients and environment. The recipes for the fillings alone (which of course are the best part of the macaron), is worth the price of the book. Some favorites macarons from the book include Bitter Chocolate, Americano (grapefruit), Lemon, Coffee, Salted-Butter Caramel, Infinitely Chocolate and Infinitely Vanilla.

There are some recipes that require ingredients that are exotic to the US, but still adaptable to what we have available here. Invest in the necessary equipment, familiarize yourself with the Macaron-making process, switch to Herme's preferred Italian Method, and prepare to impress everyone who samples your kitchen.

I wish I’d seen the two reviews that mention this — the kindle version is beyond crap. Sentence type overlaps so you can’t read the words/ingredients/instructions; words/chapter headings are cut off — it’s not only dreadful execution of a digital book, it’s inexcusable at this price. It’s useless.

I just purchased "Kindle" version of that book but it is unreadable. The sentences overlap, words are cut on the edges of the pages. Non of the usual Kindle features don't work such as magnifying etc. And I tried on many other devices such as Ipods and phones. It looks like a cheap scan. There is no option to receive any refunds.

Pierre Herme has done it again. This book offers tons of macaron recipes with lots of glossy photos and perfect quality paper. This book is visually stimulating and inspiring. Macarons are easy to make once you figure out your environment. If you want to impress others with your baking skills and want to give a food gift, buy this book. Macarons were created at Laduree in Paris originally. However, Pierre Herme's macarons are just pure fun and so yummy. If there is one macaron cookbook, this is the one to buy.

I tried many methods to make this elusive cookies and every time I was disappointed with the results. This is the most comprehensive and well written treatise on the process, with excellent recipes and tips. I've been fortunate to visit his boutiques and eaten his Macarons and I can attest to the accuracy of his recipes in contrast. Not in vain Mr Hermé is called “the Dior of desserts”, “the Picasso of pastry-making”.

I bought this book eventhough I know how to make french macarons already. I just want to add it on my collections. I truly love this book, great pictures and really have good filling recipes.Anyway, I can understand why the others gave it a bad reviews. For you to actually learn how to make proper macarons, either watch a step by step video (has to be very detail), or take a class (which I did). There's some major technique details that you have to learn, and reading a recipe online or books are not going to help. Even when I took the class, I wasted 3 batches when I did it on my own. And if you are seriously wants to learn, invest on a scale. U.S. measurements aren't going to cut it. You need to measure in grams to get an accurate results. And from experience, Italian meringue method is better than French or Swiss meringue method.. And I agree with "Carmen Adorno". This is a very delicate cookie so "Repetition" is the key. I always take orders from my friends because it gives me practice.

I have to say I love this book. I'm a 59 year old, working physicist and never once understood how weather works - this answered all my basic questions. I bought it used originally, so I wasn't able to use the online videos and animations - so I'm buying it again new in order to do that. I've read several other of the "big name" books on such things, having to do with numerical climate modelling, weather and climate, etc., but this one takes an integrated approach, avoiding many complex equations, so you can see the entire forest and not get lost in all the equations of this complex subject. It does tell you when it's skipping over something - so it's a great intro as well as add-on to graduate-level texts.

The book provides lots of valuable information. After reading it we decided to forego the Fiji stop and just add that time to our New Zealand trip. Glad I read this in the early trip planning stages.

I went to Fiji for 2 weeks with our kids using this book. It all worked great. I love the LP books for their candor and really information. they tell you what is good and what is not so good. We found all the information to be accurate and complete, even though the book sis not too big.

If you're goint to Fiji, this is the book for you. This recently updated guidebook is very comprehensive and provides excellent information on Fiji. I strongly recommend also buying the Fiji map, too.

As the set up to her new Apart From the Crowd series, Wilhelmina and company's stories promise to be a clean read alternative for those who might otherwise enjoy mainstream historical romance authors such as Lisa Kleypas or Julia Quinn. I loved how Turano set up the premise of the series, as the wallflowers break social barriers and bond over their shared social ostracization. I'm also a sucker for second chance romances, and while the brief length of this novella limits reader engagement in Wilhelmina and Edgar's story, even from this brief sample it is abundantly clear that Turano is capable of telling a charming tale with warmth and humor.Those looking for historicals with historical depth will not find that here, for At Your Request is essentially a Hallmark romantic comedy with rudimentary historical trappings for color. The dialogue lacks spark or the flavor of historical authenticity, overly formal and often clunky. That said, I believe Turano fills a unique niche within the historical fiction market, bringing humor and a contemporary sensibility to her writing that possesses great potential, leaving me curious to sample Turano's full-length fiction. The first book in the Apart From the Crowd series, Behind the Scenes, releases in April, and follows the budding romance introduced here between Wilhelmina's fellow wallflower, Permilia Griswold, and department store owner Asher Rutherford. I really enjoyed Permilia's character, and her spark-filled introduction to Asher reminded me of Mr. Selfridge -- so I am already invested in their story. At Your Request was the perfect introduction (at long last!) to Turano's lite historical romantic comedies. While not without issues, I enjoyed this sample and am curious to see how Turano's humor and heart translate to a full-length work.

I like Turano's historical romance novels because the humor comes from funny situations rather than laughing at the stupidity of the characters. This short story was a fail for me in that regard: Wilhelmina is an adult, not-slim woman. Yet she tries to hide under a chair at a dance and gets stuck. I couldn't imagine why any sane woman would think this would work and promptly lost all respect for her.Then the hero--while promising he'd never put the heroine in a compromising position--promptly puts her in a compromising position. So he also promptly lost my respect.The story did get better after that, back to what I'd expect from Turano. The hero did some very nice things for the heroine. Also, this story made me very interested in reading Miss Permilia Griswold's story.There was no sex or bad language. I wouldn't recommend this as your first Jen Turano read, but I'd still recommend it to her fans as it introduces the characters in the "Apart from the Crowd" series.

Jen Turano is one of my favorite authors, she writes books with humor that keeps her readers entertained!At Your Request is the prequel to Turano's new series Apart From the Crowd. This book introduced us to Wilhelmina and .EdgarWilhelmina Radcliff is a feisty woman and the beautiful cover model definitely shows this character well! She's regulated to the wallflower section because her father lost his fortune.Edgar Wannamaker returns to New York after being away for seven year. He is Wilhelmina dearest friend but more. He returns for one thing. Wilhelmina. Both of discover they love each other.Edgar investigates Wilhelmina's loss of family fortune. What he discovers could change everything!This story made me laugh so hard. Jen is an expert at weaving her stories so you have humor, truth, love, and a lessen all weaved together! Beautifully done! I cannot wait for Behind the Scenes!

I have read the other short story “Gentleman of her Dreams” by this author before and quite enjoyed it, and since this was another free short story I had to read this one as well. This is a nice lead in for a new series, I liked the characters and how they found each other again. It's just a very sweet and clean romance story. The last third or so is a sample from “Behind the Scenes” the first new book in this series coming out in April, and that does look like a really good read so I'm definitely going to be reading that when it comes out. Overall this is a great story, worth the read if you're looking for a shorter historical romance, and I'm looking forward to reading more of this authors books in the future.
