A great book to not only study the test- but actually learn the material. The author not only walks you through the question pool, but gives an in depth explanation of each answer. It is even better when coupled with the Audible audio version of the book.

If you seem your ham license this a good place to start. It was a very informativetext that gave me insight on what I didn't know and refreshed what I did. At somepoint I hope to be able to chat with the author over the air waves.

If your like me and prefer to "listen and see" to learn a subject matter instead of reading it, get the audio book and the kindle version to follow along. Once your done with the book take a sample test and I'm sure you will get a passing grade. I took the technicians exam and passed with 100% because of this book. Money well spent.

While Aeschylus is not far removed from the origins of tragedy in Dionysian rituals, the constant theme of Euripides is the effort we must make to sustain civilization and a reasonable life within it against the entropic forces which always threaten its dissolution.The influence of Socrates is not hard to discern. The gods are now believed in because they must be the enforcers of moral law. Men and women ought to resist unreasonable emotional urges or face tragic consequences. The single worst fate man can encounter is the loss of his reason.That tragedy made this turn, the gods being pushed off stage and made objects of belief instead of necessity, the characters depicting real people instead of irrational forces of nature and the warm embrace of reason and everything civilized—these are all marks of progress towards a freer and happier human condition. Euripides should be celebrated as a herald of enlightenment thinking.And, of course, the plots themselves have their own interest and merit. All college students should be exposed to Greek civilization and Euripides, humanizing the Socratic revolution by incorporating it into the tragic tradition, is an excellent vehicle to introduce it. This translation, while some fifty years old, reads like modern English and can still be used at the collegiate level. Highly recommended.

I like modern, readable translations and these are great. There are some very nice and helpful footnotes provided which were very much appreciated. I teach Ancient Philosophy, among other topics, and I was very happy with these translations of profound works of art. Medea, for instance, is a truly alarming and impressive creation.

Medea and Other Plays is a collection of plays: Medea, Hippolytus, Electra, and Helen.It begins with Medea, whose husband has married the daughter of Creon, the king. Medea and her childrean are banished from the land, so Medea concocts a plot to kill the king, her husband, his new wife, and the children in revenge against her spouse.She then tricks the daughter of creon into wearing cursed robes so htat she is killed, and the king with her, and then she kills her children, much to her husband's dismay.Then the next book is Hippolytus. Hippolytus begins with the banished king of Athens and his illegitimate son Hippolytus, who is not favorable towards women, so he garners the hate of Aphrodite, who concocts a plot against him. A womam claims to love him, and in secret wants to see him, but he exclaims to the world the evils of women, and with her secret out, she hangs herself. Then the king of Athens returns and thinks his son is guilty and so allows him to be punished by Poseidon, but later finds this is not true, so Hippolytus is freed, and he forgives his father before he dies.The 3rd book is Electra, the daughter of Agamemmnon and Clymnestra, who marries a poor farmer by order. The son, Orestes, was also sent away but soon returns after he is grown, and ends up staying with the farmer. Orestes then embarks to revenge his fathers death, and kills Clymnestra and her lover Aegisthus.The 4th and final book is Helen, in which Helen fears that Menelaus didnt return safely from Troy, only to meet him in person at a later date. Then they must escape from Egypt where they are, which they do by tricking Theoclymenus into giving them a boat.These 4 greek plays are excellentlly written, Euripides,afterall, was one of the greatest greek playwriters of all time, and his plays are a wonderful collection of stories.James Morwood translates them very well, so that they are fluid and easy to understand.The book is slightly over 200 pages and is an easy and enjoyable read.It is a recommendable book to anyone looking to get a copy of these plays or any greek play.

The book was awesome to read and also very easy to understand. I really enjoyed this book. If your looking to read great book on Greek tragedies then this is the book for you.

I was pleasantly surprised when I was reading "Medea". About halfway through the play, I realized that the themes of revenge, depression, and female empowerment are still relevant. Infidelity and vengeance are things witnessed everyday: in movies, in the news, maybe even in our own lives. This string of themes proves further that human kind hasn't changed too much. Though I did have some problems with the plot and some of the overdramatics. Medea revealed to the audience a vulnerable, passionate woman who has a bit of a drama problem and needs just a little too much attention. I think any reader can appreciate the pain she suffered and the disgusting way people in power dealt with her. But is there a line being far over-stepped by killing one's own children just to make a man feel guilty?Though there is some undeniable hyperbole, it is a story a reader or audience member can empathize, and is totally plausible in a modern setting.

I attended an Extension Service presentation given by this author & was very impressed not only with his knowledge, but his delightful sense of humor, a bit of which comes through in the book. So, it not only makes for an informative read but an entertaining one as well! I chose to order this book on Amazon as it was about $7.00 cheaper than what it is listed for & for what it was selling for at the seminar.

Purchasing this small travel guide prior to my trip to Korea was a good move. Understanding aculture different from the USA and sometimes very different from other Asian countries isimportant. As a guest in their country I wanted to present myself as well as I could.This book helped me acculturate enough to get by and not insult the Korean populace we metalong the way.Two big items jumped out at me when reading the book.One is that Koreans do not use chop sticks to eat rice. It is considered gauche to do so. In anyeating establishment we entered, from roadside diner to elegant eatery we found chopsticks anda spoon. The spoon is for the rice.Another is how you exchange money or items with another person. You should use your righthand to exchange items and not your left. This was a bit difficult as I am left handed. The peopleI encountered either personally or at a business were very nice about my faux pas but I felt itwas important to try to respect the culture. After a while it came more naturally.I found the part about not entering into a domestic dispute good advice. I am not so sure I woulddo so even in this country without understanding my options first. To do so in a foreign countrywhere my language skills are limited, at best, means I would attempt to find other options thandirect intervention. Treading lightly in another culture is good advice, especially from someonewho has spent time in the diplomatic service.Overall I found the book had a good brief history of the country, its culture and its mores. Youdefinitely want to supplement your reading with other books to corroborate and enhance yourunderstanding of the Land of Morning Calm.I gave the book, purchased in 2010, 4 stars because it can use an update but provided a goodguide to traversing the beautiful Korean culture.Annyeonghi gaseyo.

I read this entire book as part of my ongoing mission to get a good handle on Korean language and culture. I am by no means an expert on Korean culture, but I would say about 95% of the cultural tips included in this book I was already aware of. It didn't really teach me anything I didn't already know. Also even though this book isn't old, it struck me as rather dated. In the last 30 or so years Korea has undergone a very rapid modernization, so with a culture that is undergoing a period of rapid change I do understand it would be hard for any author to really tell an all inclusive story of all of Korea's cultural groups. But it seemed to describe a more conservative attitude that one would see more amongst the older generations. I think many of the trends and attitudes one would encounter with many younger people are absent. For example there is no mention of what is expected of students, what the cultural norms are pertaining to marriage, there is no mention of attitudes pertaining to the LGBT community, or cultural attitudes pertaining to the Western world. This is a good book if you have zero knowledge of Korean culture and you are just starting to explore it.Two things I did like about this book in particular were the emphasis on business interactions (this could be really helpful if you are a Western business person visiting Korea) and I like how the author constantly explains about North Korean culture as well, it's not all focused on South Korea.

For being so small, this little book is the best book on Korean culture I have read in a long time. It contains so much, so quickly that I read it twice in just one week. It provides an insight not just as a traveler, but as someone who interacts with Koreans. It provides bits of knowledge, trivia, and tips that is well worth the modest cover price. There are several "crash course" books like this, and take it from someone who owns them all practically, this one is the by far the best.Seeing as how it is designed as an overview, you get more than your money's worth (less than ten bucks including shipping on [...]). Want to give a friend something to read on the airplane ride over before they meet you in Korea? This book fits the bill quite nicely.I'm honestly surprised that this book gets over-shadowed by the "Lonely Planet" series. Ignore the hype and pick up this book.

Ok, this is not a book one would teach if one were teaching economics, but, when teaching history or sociology, this would be a good introductory book about economics. Written in a "easy-breezy" style, the historical examples sometimes veered into algorithms that needed to be read several times.One key point of the book...the discussion of Joan Robinson's books on economics and then this quotation: "The purpose of studying economics is...to learn how to avoid being deceived by economist." Now that was the high point gleaned from 241 pages of reading about economics.

This book is so well written! It takes you gently from not knowing nothing about economics to understanding the basics of free markets, capitalism, socialism, and many others. I think this method of learning economics principles in chronological order is the best.

This is a great historical survey of economic theories and axioms. You can learn quite a bit. Warning: this is not a deep discussion of any of them. So if you need to know for example exactly what Friedman's economic ideas were in detail and how they performed in real life, you will have to read other material to find out.Overall very enjoyable. I recommend this book to those that need introduction to Economics.

There are many good books on the mental game, and this is one of them. The author is a psychiatrist, but in this case he is no mere academic. He was a national caliber table tennis player in his youth, and has spent many years coaching athletes, esp on the PGA tour, on how to improve their mental game. What I really like is the emphasis on hard work, preparation and improving your motivation. There are no gimmicks, pat answers or simplistic formulas for getting into the zone as the author defines it. I don't find much appeal in his emphasis on trying to analyze and even direct your own dreams ( literally dreams that you dream when asleep, not dreams as in what you hope for). But this part of the text is the only place where he doesn't hit the nail on the head, and anyone who works through this and applies it will see not only their sports performance improve, but hopefully also will see their life in general also improve, as he emphasizes applying his principles in everyday life as well. As I said, this is one of the good books on the mental game, but I think that the author's extremely realistic and practical advice sets it apart from others I have read or browsed. And that you can apply it to your daily life is a bonus of the best sort!

This book is easy to read. It lays out what needs to be done to get into the optimal state of mind in which to do your best. Michael Lardon uses concise examples to illustrate his points, which seem to be:* Trust and believe in your dreams;* Prepare fully (practise a lot);* Transform desire (expressed through dreams) into will (by harnessing direction and goals to desire);* Keep everything as simple as possible;* Focus on process not product goals (avoid "monkey mind" where there is a lot of distraction and not much directed effort);* Approach emotions from different perspectives to keep things in context ("know-mind awareness);* Be intrinsically motivated, with extrinsic (especially material) motivation only to supplement the 'pure' intrinsic motivation;* Take action;* Build self-confidence by a) looking to what you've done well before, b) seeing yourself do what others are doing, c) modelling behaviours of others, and d) accepting the faith others express in you.I found the book enjoyable and intriguing, but to me it just hints at what to do to achieve the zone. This is a 162 page essay about what Lardon has observed is common to those who can get into the zone, not how to get there.For a complemntary book that is essentially the equivalent of a gym programme for the mind, I recommend "10 Minute Toughness: The mental training programe for winning before the game begins" by Jason Selk.

I really liked this book. It has already made a difference in how I approach my bowling. I was getting frustrated with myself because I have certain expectations and when they are not met, I would be disappointed in myself. After reading this book, I have been able to readjust my thinking process and have set realistic goals for myself. It is a book that you can return to now and then for a little reminder about how to find your zone. I would highly recommend it.

I do not like 99% of the Self help stuff material available in the market. Majority of the lot just acts like an anesthesia, under whose influence the reader feel protected and self assured. However once the book in back to the shelf, you are back on your old track.This book is first not meant to make you feel better!! It talks about What do you need to do to find your peak performance output. How to compete with yourself and become a better, more efficient person.This book works at multiple levels, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and using its guideline in my everyday life.Best

I was very excited when I ordered this book so this had been a disappointment.I thought "Whole Best Butchery" by Ryan Farr was better but the photographic style in that book although nice is distracting and in the beef section it focused on primals instead of sub primals. I could learn how to get the major cuts but not enough info on breaking it up into individual cuts in sequential order and the nuances of each cut.That is the reason I got the art of beef cutting in hopes of bridging these gaps.It didn't. Little by little I found this book to be unusable. For example take the chuck section. You will not understand head from toe for that cut. Step 1 is Bone in Chuck, tells you that it contains the top blade and mock tender. How is a beginner supposed to visualize what and where is that? Then it moves to step 2 which shows you a slice of the blade bone/steak !!! How did you get there? What is this sequence of events? The whole book is like this. I was just confused throughout, I could not build a sequential mindmap on how to extract these cuts.I'll be honest with you, there are better free books and free videos than these fancy resources.I would recommend "Beef Retail Fabrication" Video on youtube from "UK College of Agriculture, Food, and Environment" than all of this.I would couple it with a free pdf/webpage that can be found by googling: CFIA MEAT CUTS MANUAL beefI use the "whole best butchery" for the lamb section. Since lamb is much smaller, there are not so many sub cuts so there is enough detail levels for me.That book is my go to source for lamb.This one is just sitting on the shelf. Real disappointment.

As someone who enjoys cooking quite a bit, I've always been somewhat ignorant in the ways of beef cuts. Whenever I go to the grocery store I usually find myself referring to a website on my iPhone when trying to select my next cut for dinner, and it always seemed like the cuts I was seeing in the cooler never matched up with what I needed and/or wanted. Enter The Art of Beef Cutting.Admittedly this book is probably a bit much for most home cooks. This truly is a textbook for butchers, but if you're interested in learning exactly where each cut of beef comes from, this is the book for you. This is not just a show and tell of the different cuts. This is an instructional manual of how to break down a cow from a full carcass to every individual cut of beef you would find in the supermarket. Each set of directions is clear and simple, and the accompanying pictures are spot on. Now all I need is a bandsaw and a few subprimals and I'll be ready to go!

very good book, but it was ring bound !! something I didn't like at all, what a cheap way to make a book ! the fotos are excellent and the info is very good too !! I would have bound it like every other book and I don't like dust covers, I want it printed on the cover !!

I've known Kari for most of my meat cutting career, and will have to say that "The Art of Beef Cutting" is so detailed, that I have lent my copy to co-workers in helping train them. Kari's father was one of the best meat cutters that I have ever worked with, and she come's from a long history of knowledge. I was also blessed with a long lineage of meat cutters in the family, and have been involved since I can remember, almost 45 years, since I was 10. This Book in my opinion, is one of the best books on cutting beef, that I have ever read. I recommend it for the beginning meat cutter, to the most experienced, and to just the person who wants to know just where their favorite cut of meat comes from. Great for the average shopper for beef purchases, as to what they're purchasing.

Truly a must have for someone as myself just starting in the butcher business as well as anyone wanting to learn where their cuts come from, how to cut them, and also how to use them when cooking. Very insightful, educational, and straightforward. The marketing portion of the book is very useful not just to me as a meat cutter but also to the savvy shopper who can read between the lines for figuring out when your local butcher or store meat dept may have sales....hint...hint. Now, I just wish the author would make an accompanying instructional dvd to actually show how the different cuts are performed. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book to anyone!

We started selling beef at local Farmers Markets and needed a book that would help customers understand which part of the carcass the piece they were buying came from. We routinely use this book as reference material for demonstrating what they are getting. Beautifully illustrated with pictures of all the cuts, how to make them, tools to use, cooking tips and safe handling.[...]

Not really sure on this book. My husband is the chef here and he has only looked at it a few times. He has hundreds of books and usually knows if he likes a one or not. Possibly due to the technical part of this book it is a bit of a turn off. For someone else it may be gold. Hate to discourage anyone, try it to see for yourself.
