As the practice of spiritual direction is growing in religious communities that have no history of that mode of spiritual dialogue, it is essential to approach it with mindfulness and awareness. This book clearly and honestly addresses the complexities of the interpersonal issues that are involved. It reflects literacy in both the spiritual and the psychological arenas. The concepts discussed are sometimes difficult to address, but the writing is direct and easily understandable. I learned a lot from this book.

Beautifully written; straight forword and addresses everything you need to know about being a spiritual director. Silver explores each side of issues and address the pros and cons of each. Silver gives you the tools you need to begin spiritual direction, as well as exploring issues that would benifit even the most seasoned director. This book was obviously written by an author who has many years of experence as a spiritual director, and as a psychologist she is able to explain how spiritual direction is different than therapy in a very focused, straight forward, and clear way . I would highly recommend this book! It is a must for anyone who is called to be a spiritual director...you owe it to yourself and to your directees to read this book and use it as a tool and reference throughout your ministry.

This is the book I wish I had before I began Spiritual Direction. I recall being abble to ask only the most general questions. I had read a number of books about Spiritual Direction (I prefer Spiritual Companionship) but had read nothing of the nature of the actual interactive relationship. The chapter on What to expect from SD I found very helpful in retrospect. The issues around dual relationships (pastor/director) etc is well addressed and the book contains the codes of ethics of the two major organizations of SD's. I highly recommend this to anyone considering spiritual direction or already in it, or considering becoming a director.

This book is loaded with important information about the practice of Spiritual Direction. The author shares examples at the beginning of each chapter which help to explain the kinds of ethical situations she is considering in the chapter. I have not found a book yet which deals with these aspects of being a Spiritual Director and yet they are crucial parts. Thanks for choosing to write the book!

Rather than bore the "Average Joe" with the fiscal details of Bank On Yourself, this book uses simple concepts and anecdotal storytelling to help introduce the concepts to new people. If you're looking for a hardcore reference book, this is not it; if you're looking for an introduction to a new type of banking, this book is for you. You're still going to want to talk to an actual Bank On Yourself agent who can answer many other questions and get you set up the right way the first time, but if you're simply exploring new options for your financial security, this is an easy-to-read book.

Glad I spent very little on this book as its really an infomercial. Definitely not what I was looking for; useful knowledge regarding any aspect of personal finance.

Great so far...Just opened up my first Bank On Yourself Account and so far so good. Slow returns at first but future projections look very promising. Just a warning though, You do need some monthly capital to start investing !!!

The concept discussed in this book is worth learning about and implementing. I learned the concept through other sources and decided to go with it and set one up. You don't actually set up your own FDIC insured bank, what you do get is actually better. The value of it increases year by year, you get dividends and this will happen even if the economy collapses. I think it's better than owning gold which is so volatile.Don't listen to the reviewers who give it one or two stars. These people don't get the concept and their bashing it does a disservice to other people.This is a strategy that's 160 years old and has been tremendously successful. If you are really looking for a fantastic money strategy that steers clear of the stock market that you can use in your personal life and also get tax write off benefits for your business and do it safely, this is the one. It's a brilliant concept. Read the book and take advantage of it.

If you are at all concerned about your financial future, this book is for you. I have not yet bought a poliicy but plan to do so this week. I NEED to make my money work for me, not against me. This book tells you how!

This should be required reading for all students (for that matter, EVERYONE!) so that they are introduced to a guaranteed way of accumulating wealth and learning of an alternative way of financing their major purchases that is never discussed in the mainstream financial media.

I would race to be the first to deem Pamela Yellen's Bank on Yourself book junk, but the Chesapeake Public Library beat me to it. In fact, opening the book I purchased used via Amazon, I wondered whether someone had the gall to steal it from a library in order to sell to a stranger. Nope; instead the library's return-to-owner's address label had been stamped with big, red letters, declaring, "DISCARD." Yes, this nearly new, $25.95 hardback, copyright 2011, had already been deemed rubbish by a librarian.In fact it amounts to merely a hardbound sales pitch contrived to inspire readers to contact the author's team of "advisers" in order to purchase "customized" whole life insurance. Self-serving and scary are the author's enumerated "'common' ways to find the money to start your B.O.Y. plan." Sorry, but must suggest that B.O.Y., in this case, could stand for Born Only Yesterday.Here's a poison tip suitable for an arrow of financial self-destruction (p. 197): consider paying only the minimums on your credit card balances in order to buy more life insurance. Another: raid your IRA. And a mainstay of many charlatans: manage [read: raid] your home equity "wisely." Please.A cloak-and-dagger quote from page 34: "I want to tell you what Bank On Yourself is, but I'm afraid you'll have the same reaction a lot of people do, because they've been misinformed about it." My father used to say that it is virtually impossible to get a life insurance salesman to admit what he's trying to sell you. Not that life insurance is bad, but it falls under the heading "Moderation In All Things."Anyway, I'm no credentialed financial expert or adviser, so let me restate what Scott Burns wrote in his business column: These plans that involve putting all of one's net worth into life insurance aren't at all what they're cracked up to be.One more thing. Scott Burns has explained more than once that annuity and life insurance companies take the money consumers entrust to them and (get this) invest it in the stock market, invariably sharing its returns. If the bottom were to completely fall out from under the stock market, those revered companies would not be able to pay up as promised, and the federal government's guaranty funds would run dry. Then our nation might have to require a bailout from life insurance salesmen.

This is not a book, this is a brochure.It gives a VERY short overview of ideas without substance. For example, on page 11 out of a total of 25 pages total, it says "if you are a beginner I suggest you start out with a simple ebb and flow system and see if that works for you.". This is more like a college brief report on hydroponics, then an instructional book.I wasted my money don't waste yours.

Call me a fool, but I feel as though I got taken on this one. I completely forgot that any jackass with a computer can "write" a "book" and publish it on Amazon. This is one of those. As far as the writing is concerned, it appears that some halfwit took their 8th grade Natural Sciences term paper and turned it into self-published Amazon trash. The grammar is abysmal and the sections (if you can call them that) lack any semblance of structure. Most importantly, it is virtually devoid of anything informative and useful for the beginner or otherwise to begin their foray into the world of hydroponics. Wikipedia would have been more informative (and, indeed, is). Calling it a "book" is stretching it. It is more akin to a doctor's office pamphlet (without illustrations), but not nearly as informative. Save the money and do not buy this crap. As for the 5 star reviews, all I can say is hooray for family and friends! Way to help the author reach her goal of separating the world from their hard earned money, $6.99 at a time.

I would have liked to see more detail for setting up a system. This pamphlet basically describes the different hydroponic systems. You couldn't build much of a unit from the information given. This is light duty - go for something with a bit more depth.

This book is literally 10 pages! save your money! This is a total ripoff! The picture is the book verses the width of a quarter!

Barely scratches the surface. Doesn't go into any great detail about any one project or type of system. Was expecting a more thorough and step by step process outlined.

The book is ok at best. The information it contains is fairly limited (and I'm a total noob to hydroponics). I learned more from the web. For the price it's an ok read.

I have not ever heard about hydroponic strategies to grow up a “garden” inside your house. This is a well written book that guides you step by step through build a hydroponic sysem, grow plants, pros and cons and costs.

I did not know what hydroponics was before reading this book. I love to garden and grow flowers/plants inside an out and this book helped teach me some new ideas that I never thought of before. It is full of information with easy to follow steps

A paperback of Mr Syed Jafri's God and god of Science was forwarded to me by a close friend who is interested on my take on it as a former agnostic and a current believer. Mr Jafri's book encapsulates a massive amount of 'knowledge' from traditional sources related to some the deepest questions that have been asked about the meaning of one's existence. And about God. I myself found the multiple references to primary Islamic/Shia sources particularly enlightening about the depth of this tradition. It is dense, at times making one feel as if one is drinking from a firehose; a book that opens with chapters about 'knowledge' itself would disappoint if it were not so however. I look forward to finishing it soon.

"God and god of Science" is piece of work for curious minds. Whether you are in discovery phase of your association with God or fully committed to religious view or are far removed from such concept, this book brings back you to basic question of existence and discusses this subject intellectualy. Spoiler alert, the book goes back to the original sources to understand the religious view of God but it is convincing specially when explained from a writer who himself is fully equipped to understand scientific position of God."God and god of Science" is the first effort by Syed Hasan Jafri yet he has been very pure in his approach. The writing appears to be in the form of lectures yet it answers your questions one after another. The book clearly anticipates that you are reading it while putting your biases aside but at the same time understand the position author is trying to take. It clearly doesn't want you to change your position however, compels you to establish an open view on spirituality.God and god of Science is beautifully laid in 16 chapters with each chapter being a work in itself. Despite the enormity and complexity of the subject, the writer does a great job in moving fast rather than going spiral on a single concept. It is a quick read. I was able to finish in 3 days however, for a beginner in philosophy some of the concepts might require going back to the text and re reading. I highly recommend this book and look forward to more writings by Syed Hasan Jafri.

I think it's important to clarify that this book is better suited for someone who is already Muslim (more specifically Shia) and is either struggling with to reconcile their faith with new-age science or Muslims who are interested in knowing further on the solid ground of their religion. The book uses the Qur'an, hadith/quotes from various Imams and scholars, as well as scientific details (secondary) to establish why utilizing an Islamic framework to understand our world does not compete with science, but rather bridges it with other forms of truth that cannot be quantified through the scientific method.I think someone who is an atheist, agnostic or anti-theist will struggle with this book; as many of the sources of knowledge which Dr. Raza posits as arguments are directly from the Qur'an (i.e., someone who does not even believe in the Qur'an will not understand how that proves anything) but personally as someone who is studying Psychology at a PhD level and is seeking to better understand the Islamic traditions of 'truth', this book really helped me better understand the prescience of Islam as a holistic worldview, that the boundaries of science cannot come near. I needed to understand my religion better to understand science better and through that paradigm, this book helped immensely. Very much recommended!

Fantastic read! Dr. Jafri goes above and beyond to discuss the Quran and monotheism in our society today and the application of principles in our daily lives. Since I have not read the Quran, I truly enjoyed the source of origin he quotes in Arabic throughout his chapters. One of the most wonderful things I discovered about this read is that being a Christian it strengthened my belief and helped me to understand a larger picture of religion. Thank you Dr. Jafri for a stimulating and powerful book! I look forward to reading more of your books soon...

This is to attest the human qualities of this excellent physician that happens to be my oncologist. So much work involved in the creation of his admirable book that I, a Christian, enjoyed profoundly. My kudos to Dr. Jafri.
